Seeking God’s Heart Picture

Seeking God’s Heart

  1 Samuel 13:14
“But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.”

  Acts 13:22
“And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.”

In our last series, study, we looked at David killing the giant from Gath, Goliath. David was, focused, fearless and would it surprise you to learn there has been more written about David than any other character in the entire Bible except Jesus? This typical, unassuming, not-so-special young man did not come from wealth, did not possess any unique characteristics, and did not enjoy the benefits of a learned profession. He was an  average person with a below average job as a shepherd from a poor family. And yet, he would become a king, because he truly sought God’s own heart.

This means that you can become someone after God’s own heart as well, even if you would consider yourself just an average person. There are many things you can do seek after the heart of God. You can walk with God faithfully. You can wait on God patiently, and you can witness for God truthfully. If you do these things, you’ll be on the right track to align your heart with God’s so you can live in accordance with His will and His plan for your life.

While it may be true that no one reading this has ever seen Jesus or heard the audible voice of Jesus, it is most definitely true that believers in Jesus have seen enough in His creation, heard enough through His Word, and experienced enough of His love through His Spirit to be a person who seeks after God’s own heart.

Dear Lord, thank you for giving us David as an example of what it looks like to seek your heart. Father, I ask that you help me to be someone who seeks after your heart as well. Align my heart with your heart, my will with your will, and my plans with your plans. For I know when we are aligned, you can accomplish so much for your Kingdom through my life.  Amen.
